a throbbing pain, and with that pain, I also felt a lump. I scheduled an exam with
Hartford Healthcare breast center, which lead to a biopsy the same day (August 13, 2020). I was subsequently diagnosed with Stage 3 breast cancer, ER positive and PR negative, August 18, 2020. I had a 2½ cm mass in my left breast and there were also cancer cells in my left lymph nodes.

I started chemotherapy (Cytoxan & Taxol) on Sept 3, 2020. I was scheduled to do four sessions – one session every three weeks. After chemotherapy, I started on hormonal therapy with Tamoxifen, but had an allergic reaction. I am currently on another hormonal therapy, Lupron. I started taking Lupron shots in February 2022 and I receive a shot every month to shut down my ovaries which puts me in menopause. This will continue for five years. Since my cancer was
estrogen positive, shutting down my ovaries will assist in not having the cancer return.

I chose to have a double mastectomy with breast reconstruction surgery, replacing the breast tissue with implants. I also changed my diet. I eat fish and organic chicken with veggies and fruits daily. I work out each week, watch my body weight, and manage stress levels. As of August 2023, I will be
three years breast cancer free.

During the time of my chemotherapy, my dad and brother relocated from Alabama and North Carolina to assist my son and me during my treatment and surgeries.
My community assisted me as well, with food, and positive words. This was a hard time for my son who was nine years old,
but we persevered. We believed God would heal me, and he did. I had just started my current job, and they too were there for me.

My parents conceived me while my mom was on birth control. The birth control could not stop my life and neither will the cancer. God is not done with me. I still
have His work to do. I believe there is a calling on my life that is greater than me. Surely, God has plans for me to finish more of His work before His return.
